Worm infestation is very common health problem. Worms are everywhere, they can be found from soil, contaminated food, water, utensils, to human and animal feces and pet fur. They can be ingested from unwashed hands, breathed in, or enter through the skin. I can still remember my lola used to tell me when I was a child,“hindi ka nagtsitsinelas, bubulatihin ka“.
The easiest and most effective prevention is frequent hand washing. It is our family routine to wash hands not only after we’ve used the bathroom, but also before meals or even whenever we arrive home.
Did you know that not only children but adults too are prone to worm infestations? Yes, anyone is susceptible to worm infestation, but children are most vulnerable. Walang pinipili ang worms kasi napa-pass on. However, for all these precautions, it’s important to de-worm the whole family.
Children infected by worms often do not exhibit visible symptoms. Other problems associated with worm infestation include: loss of appetite, anemia, nausea and diarrhea.
Mebendazole (Antiox) is used to treat worm infections. It is important for your child to take this medicine to kill the worms that are infecting their gastrointestinal tract. Your doctor will work out the amount of mebendazole (the dose) that is right for your child.
Based on World Health Organization’s recommendations, to combat with the health and nutritional impact of helminth infections,
Treatment should be given once a year when the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth infections in the community is over 20%, and twice a year when the prevalence of soil-transmitted helminth infections in the community exceeds 50%.
Always be proactive and better to consult your child’s pediatrician. Remember that a worm-free family means worm-free community and we can make it possible with Antiox.
